Victorian Government invests $10.5 million in small technologies

On April 16 the Victorian Government launched its $10.5 million Victorian Action Plan for Small Technologies at the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication in Clayton.

“Victoria leads the way in nanotechnology and microtechnology in Australia and the Brumby Labor Government is taking action with this plan to ensure the growth of the sector by increasing its export and investment potential,” Innovation Minister Gavin Jennings said.

The Victorian Action Plan for Small Technologies focuses on three key actions: industry uptake, improving skills and training, and increasing awareness of small technologies. The plan also contains industry initiatives and outlines priority areas for the sector.

Initiatives in the Victorian Action Plan for Small Technologies include:

„X $6.5 million for a Small Technologies Industry Uptake Program to help businesses to apply small technologies to meet challenges, solve problems and improve productivity; a small technologies roadshow; and industry uptake awards;

„X $2 million to investigate skills and education programs needed to support this growth industry; and

„X $2 million towards international investment, export promotion, conferences and events and other projects.

Mr Jennings said the Action Plan builds on the Victorian Nanotechnology Statement 2008 which set out priorities for developing nanotechnology in Victoria, and that the Victorian Government is working closely with the Commonwealth Government’s National Enabling Technology Strategy.
