New York – Sidley Austin LLP, a new member of the BioMelbourne Network and the first US member, was named the number one law firm in the United States for Life Sciences in The International Who’s Who of Life Sciences Lawyers, published by Who’s Who Legal. Sidley was the most highly nominated firm in the U.S., with more nominations from clients and peers than any other law firm in Who’s Who Legal’s U.S. research. This honor follows the recent recognition of Sidley’s global Life Sciences industry practice in the legal directory, PLC Life Sciences Cross-Border Handbook 2009/10.
“This book represents a truly global, highly qualitative survey of only the best life science lawyers, based on exhaustive research,” announced The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers Editor-in-chief, Callum Campbell. “The unparalleled levels of positive feedback we received for Sidley Austin’s practice from numerous countries worldwide testifies to its continued excellence and confirms it as the U.S. leading firm in this field.”
“There is no more meaningful recognition than that which we receive from clients and peers,” said Chuck Douglas, chair of the firm’s Management Committee. “Our commitment to serving the entire spectrum of the global Life Sciences industry is a core firm mission. I am proud to congratulate my colleagues who have been honored in so many categories of firm capabilities.”
Eight partners from Sidley’s Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C. offices are recognized as leaders in the field, a figure unmatched by any other firm in the guide. According to Who’s Who Legal, “Each individual stood out in the research and garnered votes from our sources worldwide. Sara Gourley is viewed as ‘absolutely outstanding,’ while Michael Davis is viewed as ‘one of the top lawyers in the U.S.’ and David Pritikin was repeatedly recommended. Scott Bass, Paul Kalb and Jeffrey Kushan are among the most highly nominated individuals in D.C., and the ‘hugely talented’ Debra Pole is in the top tier of lawyers in California. Thomas Beck in New York is regarded ‘world class.’”
The second edition of The International Who’s Who of Life Sciences Lawyers will be included in the 2010 edition of The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers, a compendium volume of all 31 practice areas covered by Who’s Who Legal’s separate single volume publications.

Our lawyers represent clients at every stage of the product life cycle.
Sidley was also recently recognized for the strength and depth of our global Life Sciences industry practice in the legal directory, PLC Life Sciences Cross-Border Handbook 2009/10, with particular acknowledgement of our industry practice in China. Sidley received a leading ranking, the guide’s top honor, in the areas of: Corporate & Commercial (China/Hong Kong); Government Enforcement and Investigations (U.S.); and Product Liability (U.S.). Sidley is the only law firm to receive a leading ranking in the Corporate & Commercial (China/Hong Kong) category. In total, Sidley received recommendations in 11 practice areas in three jurisdictions, and 17 lawyer rankings for 16 recommended lawyers.
Sidley Austin LLP is one of the world’s largest full-service law firms, with approximately 1700 lawyers practicing in 17 U.S. and international cities, including Beijing, Brussels, Frankfurt, Geneva, Hong Kong, London, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo. Every year since 2003, Sidley has been named to Legal Business’ Global Elite, its designation for the 18 firms “that define the pinnacle of the legal profession.” Sidley is recognized for service and responsiveness—BTI, a Boston-based research and consulting firm, has named Sidley as one of only two firms to have been in the top ten of the BTI Client Service rankings every year since the inception of those rankings in 2001, and was number one in three of those years.
