Victoria’s $150 million technology commitment

11 November, 2011 - The Victorian Coalition Government has committed $150 million to secure Victoria’s
competitive edge and maintain the state’s reputation as Australia’s technology hub.

Technology Minister Gordon Rich-Phillips said the investment would advance Victoria’s
appeal for local, national and international ICT businesses.

“New technologies are central to the Victorian Coalition Government’s commitment to building
a competitive, more productive and dynamic Victorian economy,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.

“Through this investment we will grow local talent, advance our global competitiveness,
embrace new business, secure jobs, and create new opportunities to drive the state’s
productivity.

“This $150 million includes support for biotechnology, ICT and small technologies, and it
confirms Victoria’s lead in the innovation stakes,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.
The Coalition Government’s $150 million plan Victoria’s Technology Plan for the Future
includes:

• $85 million for information and communications technology;
• $55 million for biotechnology; and
• $10 million for small technologies.

“With world-class infrastructure, a skilled workforce and an extensive education and research
pedigree, Victoria is ready to embrace further demand from home and overseas,” Mr Rich-
Phillips said.

“The Victorian Coalition is taking a new approach to supporting technology, reflecting our
commitment to driving productivity growth in new ways.

“We expect to generate substantial benefits for Victorian industry, help create more high
value jobs, increase innovation to benefit our business community and provide clever
solutions for the challenges facing our state,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.
