'The cost of treating cancer with breakthrough drugs will become unaffordable a leading specialist has warned after the Federal Government said yesterday it would spend $104 million to fight a rare blood malignancy...Revlimid is expected to be about $6500 a month, making it likely to become Australia's most expensive public funded cancer drug.'(The Age Saturday October 10, 2009).
The Australian Government supports a multitude of drugs via the PBS, so that many Australians can access affordable life saving medications. However the Government cannot support every drug that comes onto the market. Which drugs do the Government support? What criteria are used? Who is eligible?
At the November Biobreakfast Paul Storey Director of Publishing, Industry Liaison and Listing, Pharmaceutical Evaluation Branch (PEB) will present on the following areas:
Mr Bernard O'Shea Partner at Deacons Lawyers will give an update on significant legal changes related to listing on the PBS.
Paul joined the Department in 2005 from the National Blood Authority where he developed management databases and inventory management software during its establishment. Paul Studied for his MBA at Monash University after attending the University of Tasmania where he studied clinical psychology and English literature before pursuing a brief career as a puppeteer.
As Director for Publishing, Industry Liaison and Listing, Paul currently publishes the pbs.gov.au website and organizes a range of events for PEB stakeholders.
Prior to joining the Public Service Paul was based in Toronto as business development manager for an Australian venture capital company.

Bernard heads up Deacons’ pharmaceutical and biotechnology group. He brings experience which spans the entire product development cycle from research, clinical trials, product development and commercialisation, including licensing and fund-raisings, product registration, marketing and promotional arrangements, product liability and recall arrangements. He has an intimate knowledge of government policy and relevant legislation.
