The BioMelbourne Network plays a specific role as a facilitator, influencer and direction setter by drawing upon the collective leadership interests of the Victorian biotechnology industry.
Membership to BioMelbourne Network is offered to leaders within the scientific, business and government communities, providing the unique opportunity to guide economic and scientific progression for the industry as a whole. Membership is by organisation, not as individual.
BioMelbourne Network membership benefits revolve around 5 central pillars:
- Access to the leadership group in the Victorian biosciences community

1. Access to the leadership group
As the BioMelbourne Network focusses its activities and influence only at the senior levels within each member organisation, members of the Network will invariably be the leadership and senior executive group within the Victorian biosciences sector.
Membership to the BioMelbourne Network is by organisation, not by the individual. The BioMelbourne Network does not offer a student membership.
The regular CEO Luncheon Series is a forum exclusively for members and targeted at the executive level.
2. Influencing the Industry Development agenda
As a leadership forum with a dedicated focus on the Victorian biotechnology industry, BioMelbourne Network members gain the unique opportunity to collectively advocate and influence industry development agendas. The Network can facilitate access to all key stakeholders within science, business and government, enabling the ability to positively contribute toward industry issues of importance including skills base, manufacturing, investment and infrastructure.

4. Access to timely, relevant and accurate information
The BioMelbourne Network has a key role in broadcasting the news of the Victorian sector. The BioMelbourne Network website and the Victorian BioPortal website are updated at least one / twice a day with media releases from members. The Network also invests in a targeted social media strategy that utilises Linked-In and Twitter to broadcast news about the sector to a very broad national and international audience.
The monthly events that the BioMelbourne Network hosts provide a forum for broadcasting news and information to the sector. The Network seeks to ensure government grants relevant to the sector are promoted widely and consistently, as well as funding opportunities, policy and legislative changes.
The BioMelbourne keeps accurate records related to statistics and facts about the sector which are available to all members.
5. Bio-specific peer learning and skills development
The BioMelbourne Network hosts numerous events each year that are specific to the biosciences sector in victoria. These events are considered important learning opportunities, whether that might be a CEO lunch where a peer is relating a company development, bioworkhops that are dedicated education fora on key topics, and BioBriefings where an issue is presented and discussed by leaders in the field.
BioMelbourne Network often contributes information or presents at University or institute events to PhD and Masters students on a range of topics, including career development seminars.
Where key legislative, regulatory or policy changes occur within government, the bioMelbourne Network seeks to ensure members are informaed and educated on the issues. The Network regularly hosts workshops and BioBriefings, often free of charge to members, on these types of changes.
