The 2007 Biotechnology Strategic Development Plan (BSDP) aims to realise the Victorian State Government's vision for Victoria to be recognised as one of the world's top five biotechnology locations by building on Victoria's leadership in health and agricultural biotechnology and exploring new opportunities in emerging areas of the bioeconomy.
The Plan builds on Victoria’s strong research base, world class infrastructure, skilled workforce and supportive regulatory environment. In this environment, Victorian biotechnology companies in the three years from 2004 to 2007 secured more than $4 billion in deals, spent over $500 million on research and development and attracted more than 40 percent of biotechnology funds invested across Australia.
