The Burnet Institute is a unique, Australian medical research institute that is focused on addressing and preventing the spread of some of the world’s most serious diseases. The Institute is unique because it combines world class laboratory research with practical, frontline public health programs to assist some of the most disadvantaged and marginalised communities in Australia and around the world.
In its Australian laboratories, the Institute is currently undertaking large-scale medical research programs into infectious diseases such as HIV and AIDS, hepatitis, malaria, influenza and TB; as well as cancers, such as breast, ovarian and prostrate cancer. . The Institute has a focus on the development of vaccines, new therapies, new and rapid diagnostic tests with areas of speciality including virology, immunology, public health and international health
