"The BioMelbourne Network is undoubtedly Victoria's premier biotechnology networking and trade development organisation and it is also increasingly an access point to benefits like discounted services.  Its networking events attract all the key players in the industry and many fruitful relationships flow from its events."

Ms Robyn Baker, Partner - National Head Life Sciences Group, Clayton Utz.

The Network was established in February 2001 by the Committee for Melbourne, following a report from the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) on the Victorian Biotechnology industry. BCG found that although Victoria hosted a well-developed research & development base, an important expertise gap was present threatening the maximisation of ongoing international commercial opportunities.

By establishing unique collaborations between the Victorian Government, business leaders and the biotechnology sector, the BioMelbourne Network  facilitates industry development and global connections to capitalise on international commercial opportunities.

"Maintaining Victoria's industry leadership requires continued strategic vision and industry participation to drive development and growth"

Progressing BioIndustry

As a membership based Industry Development and Promotions Agency for the Victorian biotechnology industry, the BioMelbourne Network focusses on connecting Biotechnology, Business and Government while promoting the capabilities of the Victorian industry on a global basis.

The BioMelbourne Network plays a specific role as a facilitator, influencer and direction setter by drawing upon the collective leadership interests of the sector to achieve significant results for the industry as a whole.

Membership in BioMelbourne Network ensures your organisation will have influential input into the industry’s direction and development, plus the opportunity to gain credible connections within the local and global biotech value chain.

Another initiative from the Committee for Melbourne

The Committee for Melbourne is an independent Member network, engaging Melbourne leaders by stimulating debate and moving forward on Climate Change, Higher Education, and Transport. The Committee is also committed to fostering the development of Melbourne’s brightest, emerging leaders.

The organisation was founded in 1985, by a group of citizens concerned that Melbourne was losing its place among the world’s great cities.

Their 170 Members represent the most senior levels of Melbourne’s major corporations, institutions and organisations.

Taskforces are their core ‘business’. Taskforces are the primary way they engage and interact with their Members and leverage their Members’ strengths to make a difference in the city.

Taskforces are an intersection point for the Committee’s Members representing business, science, academia, community and government.

One of their current initiatives include the Climate Change Taskforce, which draws record participation from their Member network, and is preparing a report on the impacts and implications of a change in climate for Melbourne leading up to 2030. It is also looking at the key opportunities associated with Climate Change in Melbourne for the business, community and government.
