BioMelbourne Network PatronsBioMelbourne Network is the peak industry forum for the leaders of the Victorian biotechnology industry. The Network has enlisted the support of a Patron-in-Chief, a Science Patron and a Business Patron. Each of these internationally significant leaders has considerable expertise in scientific research, strategic business management, commercialisation of innovation, and are committed to supporting Melbourne's opportunities within the global biotechnology industry. Patron in Chief Professor David de Kretser AC, Governor of Victoria, was the immediate past Chair of the BioMelbourne Network and Executive Chair of the Monash Institutes of Health, accepted the role of Patron-in-Chief in April 2006. Science Patron Nobel Laureate, Professor Peter Doherty AC, was appointed as the Network’s inaugural Science Patron in late 2002. Professor Doherty's considerable achievements in biomedical science plus his significant international stature greatly enhances Melbourne’s reputation as a leading world centre for biotechnology. Business Patron Mr Leon Davis AO, is Chairman of Westpac Banking Corporation and board member of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, and was appointed the Network's first Business Patron in early 2003. Our Patrons work with the Network to establish crucial partnerships between leaders in Melbourne's science, business and government community and the global biotechnology industry. The international stature of Professor de Kretser, Professor Doherty and Mr Davis greatly enhance Melbourne’s reputation as a leading centre for biotechnology, while their considerable business and scientific reputations, as well as their global experience support the growth of partnerships between business and science. |
